Single direction thrust ball bearings are designed to support axial loads in one direction only. They are not designed to support radial loads. The shaft ring mounts to the shaft and rotates with it, while the housing ring supports the opposite side of the bearing assembly.

The FAG 53216 has a spherical seat, allowing it to be used with a compatible spherical seating washer or adjustment washer when angular adjustment is required. This helps compensate for misalignment between the shaft and housing in suitable applications.
