The 53216 is an axial deep groove ball bearing, also known as a single direction thrust ball bearing or ball thrust bearing. This bearing consists of a shaft ring, housing ring, and ball and cage assembly.

Single direction thrust ball bearings are designed to support axial loads in one direction only. They are not designed to support radial loads. The shaft ring mounts to the shaft and rotates with it, while the housing ring supports the opposite side of the bearing assembly.

The SKF 53216 has a spherical seat on the housing ring, allowing it to be used with a suitable spherical adjustment washer or seating washer when angular adjustment is required. This helps compensate for misalignment between the shaft and housing in compatible applications.

Thrust ball bearings are separable, allowing the components to be mounted individually. Care should be taken during installation to avoid mixing up the shaft ring and housing ring.
