Product Description

The SKF 472A is a cup (outer ring) for a single-row tapered roller bearing. It is designed to be used together with a separately available cone (inner ring with cage and rollers) to form a complete tapered roller bearing assembly.

Tapered roller bearings have conical raceways on both the cup and cone and use tapered rolling elements. This geometry allows the bearing to support high radial loads and axial loads in one direction. The larger the contact angle between the outer ring raceway and the bearing centerline, the higher the axial load capacity.

The precision geometry of tapered roller bearings minimizes sliding between the raceways and rollers, reducing wear. However, a minimum load is required for proper operation.

Because the cone and cup are separable, mounting is easier and:

• End play (axial clearance) or
• Preload

can be adjusted by moving the components axially during assembly.

For best performance and reliability, cone and cup should always be replaced as a matched set and preferably from the same manufacturer. This avoids issues caused by differences in internal geometry, materials, or tolerances.
