The 52209 NSK is a double-direction thrust ball bearing, also referred to as a thrust bearing or axial deep groove ball bearing. This bearing consists of a shaft washer, two housing washers, and two ball and cage assemblies. Thrust ball bearings have an open design. The ball elements allow for high rotational speeds. Because thrust ball bearings are separable, their components can be assembled independently.

Double-direction thrust ball bearings are intended for axial loads in both directions, enabling axial positioning of the shaft either way. These bearings are not suitable for radial loads. The shaft washer is mounted on the shaft and rotates with it, while the housing washers have a slightly larger bore diameter, providing clearance for shaft movement. The housing washers feature flat seats, so the 52209 NSK does not accommodate misalignments between the shaft and the housing.
