The 51114 NTN is a single direction thrust ball bearing, sometimes referred to as a ball thrust bearing or axial deep groove ball bearing. It includes a shaft ring, a housing ring, and a ball and cage assembly. These bearings are designed with an open structure, enabling high-speed rotation thanks to the balls used.

Single direction thrust ball bearings are built to handle axial loads only, and only in one direction; they are not suitable for radial loads. In this design, the shaft ring attaches directly to the shaft and rotates with it, while the housing ring has a slightly larger bore so the shaft can pass through with some clearance.

Because these bearings can be taken apart, each part can be installed separately, making assembly straightforward—just take care not to swap the shaft and housing rings during installation. The housing ring of the 51114 NTN features a flat seat, meaning that this bearing cannot adjust for misalignment between the shaft and the housing.
